Rear Frame CRIMAZ INDY 1.0
SPREAD THE LOVE
Description
carbon,especially for Crimaz Indy frame
Product description
A high tech frame ideal for race-purposes. An aluminium skeleton chassis upgrade for all Vespa smallframe models.
The frame design of the vintage smallframe Vespa was a master-stroke. At the time an extremely advanced technical solution, simultaneously low in weight and high in rigidity. The innovative monocoque chassis, forming both the spine and form of the smaller Vespa, was one of the main reasons for its popularity. Regrettably, as is often the case, the best is the enemy of the good.
Aluminium casting.
Especially rigid.
Compatible with various peripheral frame parts.
In the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s it was unlikely that any of the PIAGGIO engineers that developed the monocoque frames could have imagined that these over fifty year-old collectors items would be exposed in the following century to state of the art two-stroke wizardry enabling power outputs between fifty and sixty PS! Additionally they are combined with high end suspension set ups and radial brake technology, even slick tyres being fitted to improve race track traction! These factors as a whole create riding dynamics which are greater than this chassis was conceived to be capable of. Why a completely new frame The construction of a new frame, capable of handling the greater forces involved, is not an easy task. There are however, more than enough valid reasons to set about providing an adequate solution. Between the front and rear wheel, the rider and the suspension
the frame transmits all the interacting forces. This means that a stiffer frame conducts all transitions of direction of travel or acceleration and braking much more precisely and predictably. This welcome increase in riding stability is especially noticeable at higher speeds. The ‘INDY’ frame, by CRIMAZ, for the Vespa ET3. Christian Mazelli, the man behind CRIMAZ, rose majestically to this challenge and created this innovative skeleton race chassis. He didn’t just knock out a reinforced clone of the ORIGINAL design, but started completely from scratch with an all-new approach to the task. Instead of a pressed-steel monocoque chassis his solution is constructed using a stiff aluminium alloy, which allows the production of especially rigid vehicle platforms. The CRIMAZ skeleton chassis consists of a central tunnel construction only connecting the most essential peripheral parts, in particular the suspension, steering assembly, riding position and engine. The kit does not include the separately available legshields, sidepanels or rear frame assembly! The more stressed parts of the frame are massively reinforced and in other places the accessibility of important components, such as the engine, has been considerably improved. This innovative CRIMAZ frame also facilitates the straightforward fitting of other advanced peripheral components, for example a horizontal rear shock absorber. The separate rear frame. The rear of the frame requires additional attachment. There is no rear frame and seating area included and it must be ordered separately. It has a tubular space-frame construction and includes various fixing possibilities for the rear shock absorber. When the frame is combined with the skeleton chassis the total weight is 11.7 kg. Well conceived and adaptable. The fixing points for the steering head bearings are individually attached with bolts, which enables the use of high end tapered roller bearings (#32907 & #32909) ensuring solid guidance of the steering assembly. The engines swing-arm is also fixed externally by a set of nuts and bolts which are included in the delivery. The swing-arm assembly is held in position by the adapters and spacers which are also included in the kit. These allow adjustment in order to offset the engine slightly, facilitating the fitting of wider wheels. When these spacers are omitted, there is sufficient clearance to enable a largeframe engine to be installed
with no extra modifications! The basic geometry of the CRIMAZ frame is identical to that of the ORIGINAL Vespa smallframe chassis. If you wish the scooter to resemble the Vespa ET3 then we recommend the inclusion of the fibreglass based rear frame and legshields produced by either CRIMAZ themselves, or from PLC.
Conclusion:
The ultimate in Vespa smallframe tuning and the final phase in the creation of a Vespa racing masterpiece! This is a project for experts, no plug and play assembly! Technical specification:
Geometry identical to Vespa smallframe models.
Rear frame individually attached (requires ordering separately).
Compatible with Vespa largeframe and smallframe engines.
External swing-arm fixing attachments.
Tapered roller bearings for the steering column.
Cast aluminium alloy frame construction.
Space-frame rear frame construction.
Bolted steering head bearing seats.
Total weight (including rear frame): 11.7kg.
The best set up
our
TIP:
To retain the classical lines of the Vespa smallframe we recommend the combination with the separately available fibreglass legshields, rear frame and front mudguard.
A high tech frame deserves combination with an equally high tech engine, such as those produced by BFA or QUATRINI.
The POLINI steering column (#PO502655) is ideal for a perfect suspension.
