Description

w/o immobiliser
Grade B – decent repair
Product description
Certain models of Vespa, such as the 50cc two-stroke models already possess an integrated CDI, contained within the ignition coil/electronic unit. The motors of the modern four stroke Vespa models fitted with carburettors from 125cc (and the 50cc four-valved, four strokers) possess separate ignition coil and CDI units. When the CDI unit fails it causes the motor to misfire. This can also lead to a complete failure of the whole electrical system and should be replaced immediately. If they are not otherwise labelled, the CDI units are compatible with all models that possess an electronic immobiliser device.-TIP : To help protect against harmful corrosion all electrical connections should be treated with WD-40 (#14253000) or similar.
Helpful Hint :
A number of the older Vespa ET-4 models were factory equipped with electronic ignition immobilisers, regrettably the CDI units meant for these models are no longer in production. To keep these Vespas running in the case of these particular components failing, the CDI unit for the older PIAGGIO ‘Sfera’ models can be used in its place. With the help of the PIAGGIO produced instructions (see downloads) the ‘Sfera’ CDI can be properly connected as a replacement.
