Product description
Modern clutch concepts for chain drive Lambrettas.
The
clutch
is a weak spot of the Lambretta engine. Both the inner and the outer spider are made cheaply of inferior material. That causes problems in particular on tuned engines. If the original clutch is beefed up it often becomes hard to pull, or it does not separate properly any longer. To properly address this problem, you need to replace the clutch as a whole, with all its components, this means there is space for more clutch plates, alternative springs or clutch plates. Stiffer constructions mean the clutch components do not warp, the clutch separates with more precision and it allows the clutch to handle more power.
There are different manufacturers of complete clutch systems:
AF Rayspeed:
AF RAYSPEED does a well proven version with excellent value for money. The AF 6 plate clutch is descended from the race version, which AF tested extensively on the racetrack. The design of both versions is very similar. While the components of the Race version are machined from bar stock, the Road version uses cast components. Both versions share reliability and high precision functionality as features. The clutch itself is lightweight and easy to fit due to the cassette design. 6 plates are compressed by 5 springs. The plates connect to the primary gear clutch wheel (included in the kit) with 12 tongues. A GP pressure plate with a bearing and a locking tool are also included in the scope of delivery. The clutch is designed for all DL/GP clutch covers. A great upgrade for almost all possible stages of tuning or a reliable replacement for high end restorations. AF Rayspeed recommend this clutch for anything from a DL125 engine to a fully blown TB25 engine.
Liedolsheim Clutch:
The Liedolsheim clutch is CNC machined in Germany. It accepts 7 Honda CR80 aluminium clutch plates. Aluminium makes for lower rotational mass, and it shifts heat better than steel. The plates are compressed with 10 springs (5 springs are included in the delivery, from approx 35hp 10 springs should be installed). If the Liedolsheim clutch is used with a DL/GP clutch cover you need to include a P200 pressure plate in your order. The Liedolsheim is one of the strongest clutches available, it
s pretty much indestructible. Dimensions and materials withstand whatever abuse you may throw at it. The inner spider for instance is machined from one solid block.
Casa Performance:
The CASA PERFORMANCE “Power Master” is among the most complex clutches available. One feature that sets it apart from other clutches is the integrated cush-drive. This dampens load peaks and makes life easier for the gearbox and also for all other components. The downside is you will have to live with the fact that it
s slightly taller than other clutches. You need to use the CASA PERFORMANCE clutch cover, or a packing spacer for the original cover. The Power Master uses 7 plates and 12 springs. The cover plate is bolted, the plunger pin presses sits on a pressure plate with a bearing.
Casa Performance also offers two slimmed down versions of the “Power Master” that can be installed in the original installation space:
The “Power Master STD” dispenses with the additional shock absorption.
The “Smooth Master” has 6 instead of 7 pads, but retains the shock absorption.
Conclusion:
This is a strong clutch, they are easy to pull and have a precise launch point. They separate reliably without requiring a lot of compression travel. This improves shifting and makes the gearbox components last longer.
Include a new chain cover gasket, new retaining plates and new gearbox oil.
