The arrangement of
gear cogs
on the output shaft combined with the smaller cogs of the primary drive assembly form together the final drive ratio of your motors gearbox setup. If this is not, quite literally, geared to the needs of the other components included in the motor, even the strongest cylinder will not help. You can either be constantly revving the life out of your motor or not have enough momentum available to change up to the gears. A cleverly chosen final drive ratio, often achieved by the replacement of just one gear cog, can work wonders for your acceleration and gear changing process.
Most of the small frame model gear box cog ratios were setup individually for each model: for example some models of the VESPA 50S had their own second, third and fourth gear ratios and the PK 50XL models had their very own individual number of teeth on their second gear cog.
Always install and replace ALL of the smaller primary drive components during each major service. The securing plates on both sides of the primary drive, input shaft holding nut, tab washer and also the input shaft needle bearings should all be replaced for safe and enduring use of your motor. Last but not least do not forget to order fresh gearbox oil, gaskets and all relevant oil seals!
