TUNING ROAD – for everyday use
Road legal ! Product description
Information : Please include the full VIN (Piaggio frame number) of the scooter to be repaired with your order to assist with the correct frame identification! The one and only
The 210 MALOSSI is the undisputed king of the Vespa tuning cylinders! We have now legalised the road use of the ‘Sport’ version for all our customers by obtaining a suitable part conformity certification, enabling its much simplified registration by the authorities in German vehicle documentation. This means the scooters owner no longer has to finance expensive sound, power and brake testing to enable them to be officially recognised and registered by the German vehicle testing authorities (T
V).Information : Please include the full VIN (Piaggio frame number) of the scooter to be repaired with your order to assist with the correct frame identification! During our many years of touring experience on Vespas we found that this cylinder offers everything you could desire from a tuned Vespa motor : Excellent reliability, optimal production quality and a premium performance. The MALOSSI remains the ideal compromise between durability, power output and price. This cylinder represents a genuine and valid upgrade from the prevailing original cast-iron cylinder types, as the aluminium alloy used in its construction dissipates the heat at a rate that easily compensates for the thermo energy produced due to its increased performance. High end aluminium casting, enduring Nicasil lined bore, 7 transfer ports with a potent cross-sectional area create the basis of a reliable and thermally uncritical performance cylinder. The combination of the patented MALOSSI CVF2 porting system and the range of solid pistons available are more than capable of supplying the combustion chamber with sufficient amounts of fresh fuel charge to be turned into raw power, while simultaneously guaranteeing an enduring delivery of huge dollops of performance from your Vespa! The main differences to its predecessor (MALOSSI ‘old’, produced before 2013) can be found in the revised transfer port layout. The side port windows have been completely laid-open and the channels massively enlarged. The port windows have also been enlarged and the redesigned boost port is immediately obvious. Upon closer inspection it now comprises of three channels, instead of two The MALOSSI cylinder kits produced since 2016 are delivered including a VERTEX piston with a graphite skirt surfacing material. This cutting-edge technology reduces friction considerably and can also function as an emergency damage-reducing solution in case of heat-seizure. Compared to the ASSO piston that was included with the pre-2016 Mk II version of their 166cc cylinder, the VERTEX piston is around 10% lighter. The skirt of the latest piston is shorter which eliminates the need for extra modifications when attempting to fit a long-stroke crankshaft. The port windows are noticeably larger on the VERTEX piston and also provide a much improved match to those found on the bore of the cylinder The part conformity certification we include with the MALOSSI 210 ‘Sport’ cylinder is only valid when the cylinder is combined with an original Vespa PX 200 or Rally 180 (modification necessary) cylinder. Further peripheral components should include a Dell’Orto SI24 carburettor, original 57mm stroke crankshaft and an original PIAGGIO exhaust. If you wish to include further performance enhancing components while still profiting from the convenience of part conformity certification ensuring full road legality, please consider our carefully compiled motor upgrade Tuning Kits (#1020100H & #1020200H) consisting of a choice of additional performance exhausts plus a number of crucial carburettor tuning components. We fundamentally recommend the inclusion of our Fast Flow 2.0 fuel tap (#15878100 & #15879100) with any motor project involving performance enhancement to ensure a reliable and sufficient increase in fuel delivery to the carburettor. Our guarantee is invalid without their exclusive use in the set up of your scooter. The use of an alternative float-bowl cover with a larger float valve (#128295T7) along with our specially conceived throttle slide 4.0 have also proved their worth in practice by fine tuning the carburettor to perfect this kits operation and facilitate a smoother running motor. This kit comes with a MALOSSI HTSR cylinder head (High Turbolence Squish Racing) with O-Ring.
Conclusion :
If you require state-of-the-art performance and reliability, along with the finest power/price ratio combined with the full comfort of simple inclusion of the cylinder in your German registered scooter by the local branch of the vehicle testing authorities, then look no further than our MALOSSI ‘Sport’ cylinder with full part conformity certification! Aluminium/68.5mm bore/7 transfer ports/210.06ccAluminium cylinder, ‘MHR’ with 57mm or 60mm stroke, 7 transfer ports, VERTEX graphite coated piston with 2 (MHR) trapezoidal chromed piston rings, with HTSR cylinder head (High Turbolence Squish Racing), compression ratio: 12.5:1, incl base- and head gasket.
TIP : While assembling this kit check the ignition components and replace the spark plug. Due to the increased performance enabled by this kit the brakes should also be serviced and eventually upgraded with a set of our Performance brake pads/shoes. Good shock absorbers improve the suspension for a more consistent contact with the road while accelerating, cornering and braking! Technical Tip : On certain PIAGGIO produced PX 200 motors there were manufacturing tolerances included in the production process to allow for the differing positions of the cylinder mounting studs and their corresponding holes. PIAGGIO could compensate for this anomaly by providing their cylinders with 10mm diameter holes to allow for the displaced studs. On the other hand, MALOSSI cylinders are only provided with 8mm wide openings. As it is impossible to identify and cater for these irregularly produced crankcases we recommend you check the fit of the cylinder before you mount the piston. If you encounter difficulties fitting the cylinder over the original cylinder holding studs we have a slightly slimmer MJ9 (#87127000) cylinder holding studs available. This solution will require a lower cylinder stud thread to be drilled out to a 9mm diameter. Article with official parts certificate! If you present yourself with this document at the “T
V” or another monitoring institution, the inspector can transfer the values for noise, power and maximum speed directly into the test certificate of your vehicle; this means you save time and costs for these measurements, which usually amount to several hundred euros. With the test certificate, you can then have the changes entered in the vehicle documents at the registration office and from now on you are completely legal on the road with more power! When ordering, please state the chassis number of your vehicle (VIN)! The expert (e.g. T
V) will then check whether the components are installed as described in the certificate. The VIN on which the certificate is issued does not have to be in the area of use of the certificate, i.e. a certificate for a Malossi 210 can also be issued on the VIN of a PX80 (“V8X1T…”). The issuing of the certificate to one single chassis number serves as copy protection. Please use the free text field at the end of the online order to state your VIN or add it to your order by phone. The parts certificate article cannot be sent to you without the VIN. For combinations of performance-enhancing components, please note the tuning kits we have put together for you (e.g. 1010410H). The parts certificates contained therein describe the joint installation of all parts included in the scope of delivery. Attention with mixed installation:
If, for example, you properly install a Polini 177 cylinder with certificate (14000800H) in an original Vespa PX before ’89, the officially recognised expert should accept the modification according to the expert opinion and issue you with a corresponding test certificate. If, for example, you also install a different primary gear ratio or another additional performance-enhancing part (mixed installation), the maximum speed of the vehicle will theoretically change compared to the certificate. In this case, the expert may no longer accept the values from the appraisal and say that he must measure again.
It is therefore often advisable to carry out modifications and registrations in a certain order. E.g. for an oldie Vespa, e.g. VNA: First install a PX-200 engine in its original condition. Then register the original PX values (noise, power, displacement…) in the papers of the VNA. Then retrofit the Malossi cylinder and show up for another test with the parts certificate. Although the VNA is not included in the scope of the Malossi-210 parts certificate, the engine (engine number) installed in the VNA (PX200) is described in the certificate of the cylinder. Often the expert understands this and then takes over the values of the PX 200 parts certificate also for the VNA with the PX200 engine from the example.
Even if you combine two individual items that BOTH have a certificate, e.g. racing cylinder and racing exhaust-Performance, the expert may insist on new measurements. This is because the values of the certificated exhaust are based on use with the original cylinder and the values of the certificated racing cylinder are based on the original exhaust. Neither expert opinion states how the two modifications together affect the engine….
Notes (please check with your preferred test centre):
Not every inspection organisation (GT
, T
V, Dekra, K
S, etc.) and not every test centre may carry out registrations.
Vehicles built in 1989 or later are excluded from performance-enhancing measures because the exhaust behaviour changes. (In individual cases, however, we have heard that registrations were also granted for newer vehicles).
We have made the experience that entries in the vehicle documents usually work without problems if they are properly prepared:
You should have spoken to the expert beforehand.
The vehicle should be in good working order, especially the brakes, when it comes to the acceptance of performance upgrades.
The modifications should be easily recognisable and comprehensible to the inspector (documents ready and modified vehicle parts exposed and clean, identification numbers easily recognisable, etc.).
Even if your vehicle has been modified according to the installation instructions and you show up at the inspection station with a parts certificate, the inspector may refuse to register your vehicle because, for example, the general condition of the vehicle is too poor, e.g. the brakes do not work or the lights, indicators, horn, etc. are defective. It is not sufficient to install the performance-enhancing parts and carry the parts certificate with you. This is only permitted for the journey to the test centre. The conversion must be approved by an expert (test certificate) and entered in the vehicle documents.
