TUNING RACE – for professionals
For race use only. Not admitted in the area of the German StVZO! Product description
In the racing cylinder segment for the 125-150cc largeframe models, there is a large selection of potent cylinders: Parmakit, Pinasco, Polini and Quattrini offer well-made aluminium cylinders with a modern layout. The MALOSSI 166 cast iron cylinder is and was THE classic for the small PX engines. Powerful, suitable for everyday use – potential for more. Actually a perfect cylinder that could keep up with the “big ones” made of aluminium. Now, however, the Italians have followed suit and are sending three aluminium versions of their new MALOSSI 177cc cylinder into the race. A “Sport” version for ambitious everyday riders, a “MHR” version for standard stroke and a “MHR 60” version for 60mm long-stroke crankshafts. 177 MHR – Both MHR versions are made of aluminium with a coated raceway. This improves heat dissipation and increases stability compared to the predecessor made of grey cast iron. The channel layout is based on that of the successful and powerful MALOSSI cylinders for the 200cc models. 4overflow channels and 3 boost ports provide sufficient paths for the mixture to enter the combustion chamber. The exhaust is split in two and thus offers plenty of room for further tuning measures. The exhaust flange is screwed into the cylinder with a thread. This facilitates variations of the connection diameter. The cylinder head is sealed via an O-ring and centred in the correct position with sleeves. There are additional cooling fins on its underside. A lightweight Vertex 1-ring piston is used as the piston. Available in a 57mm and 60mm stroke variant. 177 Sport – Similar to the 210 for the big largeframe engines, Malossi offers a “toned down” version of the cylinder suitable for street use. This comes with a wide exhaust, but is not split in two like the 177 MHR version. The overflow layout is also slightly different compared to the MHR version. The delivery includes a Vertex piston with two piston rings instead of one. Otherwise the Sport has identical features as the MHR version. Aluminium/ 63mm bore/ 7 transfer ports/ 2 exhaust ports/ Vertex piston/ 177cc Conclusion: The MALOSSI 177cc aluminium is a high-quality cylinder for many purposes. It can be used to create durable everyday engines with plenty of torque and good-natured characteristics. And always with a good power output. Even very powerful engines can be realised without any problems. Depending on the version, the cylinder offers a lot of potential for further tuning. TIP: A 24 SI, Road racing exhaust and a reinforced clutch are mandatory. MALOSSI recommends the use of a FAST Flow fuel tap! A longer gear ratio, a racing crankshaft with 57 or 60mm stroke recommended. With a racing exhaust such as Performance, RZ or SCORPION, 28mm carburettor and/or electronic ignition such as Performance, even significantly higher performance is possible.
