A freshly conceived, lightweight update of a classic tuning cylinder
the POLINI 187cc aluminium racing cylinder. The most obvious difference to the original is the aluminium construction, as opposed to the earlier cast iron type, combined with a robust bore lining. This complicates the production process a little, but this design has proved the most durable and thermally stable cylinder set up for the largeframe Vespa models. Along with the new material POLINI have also included a number of useful upgrades with this new cylinder. The cylinder head is provided with two spark plug mounting holes, in the original position and centrally, with a sealing plug bolt for the unused threading. It is attached using eight bolts making it a reliable fit with less chance of warping. The outlet port has also been revised by POLINI and the exhaust flange is now made of steel and attached to the cylinder with bolts. This makes it both considerably tougher and also enables simpler modification and machining once removed. The piston retains its 63mm diameter but is now equipped with two more modern 1mm thick piston rings. The port layout also remains traditional, with five transfer ports and a single outlet. The kit is conceived for combination with a crankshaft that provides a 60mm stroke. We recommend the inclusion of a primary drive kit with a taller gear ratio, according to the engine to which the racing cylinder is fitted.
